Darrel Fincher

November 8, 1943 — April 25, 2023

Darrel Lee Fincher, 79 years old, passed away on April 25, 2023 after a prolonged battle with COPD. He was surrounded by family, in his home in San Clemente, CA. Darrel was born November 8, 1943 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to Frank E. Fincher and Helene C. Friese Fincher. He attended Parker High School and went on to graduate from DeVry University in Chicago. Then, establishing a 30+ year career as a top business executive at Motorola Inc., in Tempe, Arizona. Years later, Darrel returned to Sioux Falls, where he lived and restored his family farm, where he flourished.

Darrel married Esther Van Middendorp Landegent in 1966 and they were married for 23 years. They had 2 children, Eric Evan and Nicole Catherine. Extended family Laura Landegent Haney and Lisa Landegent LeDeaux. He later married Lynn Fisher in 1991. His current wife, Anastasia Hansel, and he were married in 2016 until present.

Darrel was an excellent craftsman and engineer. He loved remodeling old cars, trucks and Jeeps, as well as houses, and was good at everything he did. He loved his Corvettes. He cherished his genuine relationships with friends and family and loved to cook and host gatherings that brought everyone together, especially the annual pheasant hunts the third weekend in October. He was always building, planting, gardening, and working to improve the Fincher property that had such rich family history. In 2013, he retired and moved to San Clemente, CA.

Darrel, a loving son, brother, husband, father and friend. His children are Eric Fincher of Omaha, Nebraska, and Nicole Fincher Wilt of Denver, Colorado. Grandfather to Frank and Nicholas Fincher, Ava and Ivy Wilt. Brother to Edward Fincher of Parker, South Dakota, Dennis Bress Sr. of Newport Beach, CA, JoAnne Williams of Tustin, CA, and DiAnne Gale of Lloyd Harbor, New York. Life-long best friend Robert 'Bob' Buller of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Preceded in death are brothers Wayne Fincher, Ronald Bress and sister Sandra McKenney.

A service to celebrate Darrel's life will be held Saturday, September 16, 2023 at 1:00pm in the United Methodist Church in Parker, South Dakota.
