Derald R. Cink was born on February 7, 1926 near Parker, SD to George and Ruby (Douty) Cink.  He attended school at Parker before receiving training to be an electrician and becoming a member of IBEW Electrical Union Local 426.  Derald met the love of his life Janice Lakings at a dance hall in Davis, SD.  The to got married on November 25, 1947.  From this union they were blessed with three children, Pat, Philip and Tim.  They farmed near Parker until 1961 when the family moved to Sioux Falls and Derald took a job as an electrician.  He was employed with Dick’s Electric for 23 years until his retirement in 1989.  After retirement he was employed at Lamps and Shades for over 20 years.  He was a longtime member of the IBEW Local Union 426, Moose Lodge and St. Lamberts Catholic Church.

Derald and Janice enjoyed traveling.  A few of their favorite locations were Hawaii, many of the beautiful National Parks from coast to coast and Florida.  Derald’s second love after that for his wife Janice was that of music and playing guitar.  It started with a traveling salesman stopping at the Cink farm and his Dad purchasing a guitar.  The family all learned to play with Derald also giving lessons.  It became a lifelong passion as he played at many dances and other events.

Grateful for having shared his life are his children, Patricia (Frank) Leisinger, Trent, SD, Tim Cink, Sioux Falls, SD and daughter in law, Judy Cink, Sioux Falls, SD; 4 grandchildren, Nicole, Angela, Kristy and Michael; 7 great grandchildren; a brother Alvin (Delores) Cink, Marion, SD; and 2 sisters, Margaret Bohner, Petaluma, CA and Mary Miller, Parker, SD; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.   He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Janice in 2020, a son Philip, a granddaughter Julie Cink and brothers Donald, Raymond, John, Gordon, and a brother in infancy.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the dedicated and loving staff at the Tieszen Memorial Home for the exceptional care they gave Derald.
