DeWayne Duncan, 75 of Viborg, passed away on January 15, 2019 at Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Viborg. Funeral Service will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, January 19, 2019 at the Viborg Community Building. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service.
DeWayne LeRoy Duncan was born in Vermillion, SD on June 28, 1943 to Roy and Lucille Duncan. He graduated from Beresford High School in 1961. After high school he worked on the Oahe Dam project near Pierre, SD. On August 8, 1964 he married Glenda Johnson at Bethany Lutheran Church in Viborg. They initially lived by Truck Towne, near Beresford, where DeWayne worked as a mechanic at the service station there. In 1966 they moved to the family farm northwest of Viborg where he farmed for many years. After leaving the farming business he worked at VanBuskirk Construction in Iowa and for the Viborg Co-op Elevator at the Fertilizer Plant. He retired in 2011.
DeWayne’s happiest times in life were spent hunting, preserving wildlife, and supporting the hunting industry. His favorite place to be was in his shop with his Great Dane, Sarge. Other favorites of DeWayne’s included Winchester guns, tractors and gardening.
Beyond blessed to have shared his life are his wife of 54 years, Glenda Duncan, Viborg, SD; his children and their spouses, DeAnne (Robert) Kribell, Beresford, SD, Darci (Nate) Schreiner, Huron, SD, Denise (Cary) Paul, Sioux Falls, SD, and Darren (Jessica) Duncan, Viborg, SD; grandchildren, Shelbi Kribell, Sartell, MN, Kolton Kribell and Quinn Kribell, Beresford, SD, Samantha Rothschadl (Tyler Bjerke), Viborg, SD, Wolfgang Rothschadl, Viborg, SD, Calvin Paul and Taylor Paul, Sioux Falls, SD, Adrian Wurtz, West Union, IA, Dakota Schreiner, Ashton Schreiner, and TJ Schreiner, Grandview Plaza, KS; great-granddaughter, Peyton Bjerke, Viborg, SD; and his sister, Cheryl (Doug) Johnson, Alcester, SD.
DeWayne was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Lucille Duncan; his brother, Lowell Duncan; his sisters, Donna Johnson and Delores Havelka; his sister-in-law Joanne Duncan; his brothers-in law, Dick Johnson and Eddie Havelka; his nephew, David Duncan; and his granddaughter, Courtney Rothschadl.
