Dorothea A. Osborn, 95, died Tuesday, October 2, 2018 wrapped in the loving embrace and care of her daughter Carolyn and her granddaughters, Stephanie and Rebecca, at Seton Medical Center Hays, Kyle Texas.  Her granddaughter Marisa had also been able to share a great deal of her time each day while she was in Texas. Since Dorothea’s arrival in Texas on Thursday evening, she had enjoyed sharing plentiful time with her grandchildren and all of her Texas great grandchildren, playing games and singing favorite songs.  Funeral services will be 2:30 pm, Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Hurley with burial in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation, will begin at 2:00 pm, Tuesday at the Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Chapel, Viborg with a Prayer Service at 7:30 pm Tuesday evening.  Pastor Nicholas Osborn will be presiding. Dorothea Adelheid Fischer Osborn was born on December 22, 1922 at rural Menno, South Dakota, to Edward and Adelheid (Guericke) Fischer. As a child she lived on a farm in rural Menno and worked out assisting many families with household work and childcare for many years. She was well known for her delicious homemade bread and apple pie.  During one of those “working out” jobs, she met Melvin Osborn while working at his parent’s home.  She had to resort to traveling to Pennsylvania to assist with a baby’s care to make Melvin realize he didn’t want to live without her, and they were united in marriage on November 27, 1952, at Menno, SD, just two weeks after he proposed. She was a hardworking dairy farm wife and mother her entire married life at the Osborn farm in rural Centerville until shortly after Melvin’s death in 2012.  She spent the remainder of her years residing at Pioneer Villa and Assisted Living in Viborg where she received wonderful, compassionate and loving care.  While living in Viborg, her sons Darrell and David and South Dakota grandchildren and great grandchildren were able to spend happy visits with her.  Her daughter-in-law Candice provided much love and attention to her. Many neighbors and friends saw her smiling face and visited with her as she walked the halls and sat in the lobby. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. So very grateful for having shared her life are three children, Darrell (Candice), Centerville, David, Salem, and Carolyn, Kyle, Texas; seven grandchildren Jill (Al) Rickenbaugh, Stephanie (Bryan) Wagers, Jennifer (Casey) Slack, Rebecca (Rob) Dahse, Marisa (Steve) Ladd, Joseph (Shannon) Mobley and Benjamin Osborn, and fifteen great grandchildren; her sisters and brothers, Clara Ulmer, Cecelia Dean, Elmer Fischer, Amanda Stewart, Arlene Wagner, Harold Fischer, Elsie Jensen, and Adeline Hofer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin, her parents and a sister, Lorine Koerner.
