Ed Waldner

Memorial services will be on Thursday, January 5, 2022 at 11:00am in the Church of God, Marion, SD.

On Sunday, January 1st, 2023, Ed Waldner, loving husband and father of six children, passed away at the age of 65. Ed was born on April 11th, 1957, in Rosedale Colony to Josh and Kate Waldner. Ed worked on ranches in South Dakota and Montana for several years after leaving the colony before finding his way back to the Sioux Falls area. On April 8th, 1995, he married Liz Decker from Wolf Creek Colony. They raised one son and five daughters on their acreage outside of Parker, SD. Ed worked as a truck driver before starting his own businesses, Fare Trade, Inc. and E-D Scrapping.

Ed became a believer in his twenties, and since then he has been a light of God’s truth in the lives of everyone around him, especially those closest to him. He has guided his wife and children in the ways of the Lord by word and example. He loved talking about Jesus with anyone who would listen, even complete strangers. Family and work were also high priorities for Ed: he included his whole family in his businesses and taught them the value of a good work ethic. He was most satisfied when he was enjoying a family meal after a hard day of work with a cold beer in his hand. He had a special connection with each of his children; he was a role model for his son and a comforting, wise counsel for his daughters. His sole desire was to guide his children to the truth. Ed was blessed to be able to meet his one grandchild, Roman Eddie Waldner, son of Kyle and Denise. His legacy will continue to live on in the generations to come.

Ed will be remembered for his devotion and faith, generosity and hospitality, and love for debating and “stating facts.”

Ed was preceded in death by his sister, Sarah (Leonard) Stahl; his brother-in-law Willie Decker; his sister-in-law Joyce (David) Waldner; his father, his nephew Martin (son of Josh Sarah Waldner); Josh Waldner; his mother, Kate Waldner; and many uncles, aunts, and cousins. He is survived by his wife Liz Waldner; his six children, Kyle (Denise) Waldner (Worthing, SD), Viana (Billy) Mote (Huntsville, AL), Jenny (Sam) Wipf (Tea, SD), Taya Waldner, Rashay Waldner, and Neleah Waldner; his grandson Roman Waldner; his brothers, Josh (Sarah) Waldner, Harold (Dorothy) Waldner, Nathaniel (Sarah) Waldner, David (Sarah) Waldner, Mark (Sarah) Waldner, and Ron (Leah) Waldner; his sisters Edna (Jackie) Waldner and Elsie (Sam) Waldner; his sisters-in-law Leah (Ron) Waldner and Lydia (John) Decker; father-in-law William Decker; mother-in-law Elisabeth Decker, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
