Irene Jorgensen

Irene Jorgensen, 91 of Viborg, passed away on July 30, 2021 at Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home. Funeral Service will be at 1:00 PM Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at the First Baptist Church, Viborg. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM Monday, August 2, 2021 at the church. Arrangements provided by Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Home.

Irene Ellen Cotton was born on March 26,1930 to Robert and Geneva Cotton. She graduated from Parker High School in 1948, and attended General Beadle Teachers College where she obtained her teacher’s certificate. She was united in marriage to Dale Jorgensen on September 14, 1952. To this union they had three daughters, Gail, Jane, and Rita. Irene worked at Pioneer Memorial Hospital for over 30 years as a dietary aide. She loved her job and all the people she worked with. Irene was a member of the First Baptist Church, Viborg.

Irene loved to play cards, she taught the grandkids at an early age how to play kings in the corner and skip-bo. You rarely got to leave her house without getting in a game or two. During her years in the nursing home, the highlight of her week was playing bingo which she was quite lucky. You also find her folding laundry, anything to help out and stay busy.

Irene is survived by her daughters Gail (John)Reed of Arnold, NE, Jane Jorgensen of Viborg; grandsons Jason (Stephanie) Reed, Mike Reed, Matt Reed and Derek (Ashton) Pearson; granddaughter Jessica (Andrew)Schott; sister-in-law’s Dorothy Allen of Hurley, Edith Jorgensen of Sioux Falls and Carol Jorgensen of Turkey Ridge; son-in-law Rodney (Sandy) Pearson. She was preceded in death by her husband Dale, daughter Rita, parents Geneva and Robert Cotton, and brother Arnold Cotton.
