John Dale “Jack” Wilson, 70 of Hurley rode off into his final sunset in Sioux Falls, SD on Friday, September 11, 2020 with his family by his side. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, September 15, 2020 at the United Methodist Church in White Lake, SD with burial at the Black Hills National Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday evening from 6-8pm at the Hofmeister Jones Funeral Home in Parker.
The cowboy was born on August 11, 1950 in Mitchell, SD to John and Hazel (Anton) Wilson. After graduating from White Lake High School in 1969 he entered in the US Marine Corps, having served in Vietnam. After his honorable discharge from the Marines he returned to South Dakota where he tried out a few careers before becoming a Master Plumber. Jack loved to accomplish a job, having worked in South Dakota, Wyoming, Nebraska and where ever the job would take him. From Super 8’s with Sheesley’s, to residential and commercial with Midwestern Mechanical in Sioux Falls and Ackerman’s in Viborg.
On August 30, 1997 this cowboy married Sheryl Podhradsky in Gillette, Wyoming. Jack had many great accomplishments but most rewarding was when Sheryl and he became foster parents. He was a life member of the VFW, DAV and Vietnam Veterans. Also a member of the Hurley American Legion, American Quarter Horse Association and the Master Plumbers Association.
Anyone who ever met this cowboy knew 3 things about him; he loved and knew the Lord, his family and friends were deeper than you can measure, and his love for Ruffy, (his blue heeler) and his horses and their care. He love the old cowboy way of life and was surely a country gentleman. He loved the fun of teaching someone and part of rodeoing.
Grateful for having share his life are his wife Sheryl; daughters Bridget Podhadsky (Luke Mikkelsen) and Melissa Hicks (Dominic Schaff); Grandchildren Navaeh Podhradsky, Cheryl Ann Hicks, Hannah Taylor, Joey Hicks and Cody Lewis; Siblings Randy (Darla) Wilson, Robert Wilson, Kathy Roti (Dennis Moldrem) and Mary Beth Engle; Sisters in law Ardetta (Steve) Robertson, and Loretta (Edwin) Marsh; many nieces and nephews and the Andersen and Boomgarden families.
