Lowane M. Bossman, child of God, 94, of Lennox, SD died peacefully Sunday, July 30, 2023 at Sanford USD Medical Center. Lowane Marie Fodness was born May 23, 1929, on a Farm/section near Lennox where she lived most of her life, the daughter of Martin A. and Tena (Hanson) Fodness. Lowane was baptized June 23, 1929, and affirmed her faith April 5, 1942, at West Prairie Lutheran Church. At the time of her passing she was the oldest living baptized and confirmed member at West Prairie. She grew up and attended Nelson 34 and graduated from Lennox High School in 1947. Lowane descended from a long line of strong-minded/independent women. She grew up during the Great Depression which accounts for her vast collection of sour cream, cool whip and ice cream containers. She was a true Norwegian who made lefse and lutefisk for many years with her mom and sisters. They had a system the was smooth and efficient. Lowane was united in marriage to Alvin Bossman on September 14, 1951, at West Prairie Lutheran Church. The couple briefly lived in Sioux Falls before returning to the home section. Lowane and Alvin enjoyed over 63 years together which included weekly dances together at The Moose. In recent years, she filled that time with Lawrence Welk and Daniel O’Donnell. The smile on Lowane’s face was priceless when she saw Daniel O’Donnell at the Pavilion. Lowane was a homemaker until her last day. Serving dinner (yes that is the noon meal) to Keith and Kale on Saturday with a fresh pie and her hair in curlers to prepare for Sunday morning. In her spare time, she loved embroidery and hand quilting. Where some write eloquent journals and notes, Lowane wrote her story and love into the fabric and stitches she sewed. She created prom, holiday, bridesmaid, and wedding dresses (including her own) and many other sewing projects. Lowane loved to bake and had five pans of treats in her fridge on Sunday. She loved sharing recipes with others and looked forward to hosting and having afternoon/evening lunch even after a big meal. A favorite was her sour cream raisin pie and bars. It was fitting that she served coffee with her granddaughter a few Sundays ago and Ladies Aid/WELCA the following Wednesday. She was happiest when working at church. Her WELCA friends were a very important part of her story and the West Prairie community, both within the building and the country miles that surround the church.
Well done good and faithful servant. UFFDA!
