Marge Jorgensen

April 6, 1934 — November 2, 2020

Marjorie Jorgensen, 86 of Davis died Monday, November 2. 2020 at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls.  Memorial services will be Friday, November 6, 2020 at 10:30am in the Hurley City Park, Hurley. For your comfort please bring a lawn chair. Burial will be at Spring Valley Baptist Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5-7 Thursday evening at the Harmony Presbyterian Church, Hurley, with a time of sharing at 7:00pm.  Due to Covid-19 the family request that guest wear a mask and practice social distancing at both opportunities to celebrate Marge’s life. Arrangements by Hofmeister Jones Funeral Home.

Marjorie Anna Mellegard was born on April 6, 1934 near Hurley, SD to Romey and Esther (Jorgensen) Mellegard.  She grew up at Hurley and graduated from Hurley High School in 1952.  After graduation she attended secretarial college in Omaha, NE where she worked for a short time.  She married Kenneth Jorgensen in 1954 and to this union 6 children were born.  She lived and farmed in the Viborg area before moving to Davis, SD where she operated Marge’s Antiques.  She also was employed at the Sunset Manor in Irene and was a longtime member of Spring Valley Lutheran Church.

Grateful for having shared her life are 6 children, Pamela (Gordon) Ludens, Viborg, Brian (Ramona) Jorgensen, Brookings, Kent (Yolanda) Jorgensen, Hurley, Steve (Lori) Jorgensen, Viborg, Karen Jorgensen, Hurley and Jean (Terry) Johnson, Hurley; 15 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren; a brother James “Bud” (Sue) Mellegard, Viborg and Jean (Skip) Christensen, Humboldt, IA.  She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, Vern, Norman and Richard  and 4 sisters, Dorothy, Mary, Helen and Ethel.
