Marlys Richter

 Marlys Richter died on January 21, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Home in Sioux Falls, SD. Marlys passed away peacefully with her family by her side.Marlys Lorraine Richter was born on October 10, 1941 to Merrill and Mabel (Ness) Stengel in Beresford, SD. Marlys attended a rural school through eighth grade. She graduated from Canova, SD High School in 1959. Marlys graduated from Stewarts School of Hairstyling in Sioux Falls, SD and began working at the Fashionette Beauty Salon.Marlys was united in marriage to Gary Lamont Richter on February 22, 1964 at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Spencer, SD. They moved to Vermillion, SD while Gary attended the University of South Dakota Law School and pursued his Law Degree. Marlys also earned a PHT Degree, Putting Hubby Through Degree, as she owned and operated a small beauty shop in Vermillion. Marlys and Gary then moved to Parker SD and started a family. The couple had two sons, David and Kelly. Marlys owned and operated Marlys' Beauty Salon in Parker for several years. She then became an Inspector for the State of South Dakota Cosmetology Commission until her illness in 1999. Marlys was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Parker, SD. She loved to spend time with her family, play golf and socialize with her friends.Grateful for Marlys' love are her two sons, David (Stephanie) and Kelly (Tricia), her six grandchildren, Alexis (Kelly), Jaden (Kelly), Brieanna (Kelly), Ethan (Kelly), Maria (David) Flora (David), her brother in law Stanley Richter and sisters in law Barbara Kroger and JoAnn Stengel.Marlys was preceded in death by her loving husband, Gary Richter, her parents and step-mother, Izora Stengel, her brother Dwane Stengel, sister in law Marla Richter and brother in law Gene Kroger.The family would like to thank the staff at the Good Samaritan Home in Sioux Falls, SD for the loving care she received during the five years she resided there. They are especially grateful for the love and compassion during her last days that allowed her to pass with dignity and respect.A small memorial service will be held at the home of David Richter, 209 N Duluth Avenue, Sioux Falls, SD on Thursday, January 24 at 7:00PM.
