Mary Ann Swensen

November 14, 1941 — July 4, 2024

Mary Ann Swensen, 82, Yankton SD, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2024 at Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton SD, with family by her side. No public services will be held. Arrangements by Hofmeister Jones Funeral Home.

Mary Ann was born on November 14, 1941 at Sioux Valley Hospital, Sioux Falls SD, to Willard M Swensen and Anna H Hansen.

Mary Ann was s special needs child/adult, and faced many challenges. She lived at home with her parents and siblings until she was 44 years old. She then transitioned into a training and living facility, ABS (formerly known as YAATC) in Yankton SD, where she thrived. This quickly became her home. she loved her housemates and care assistants, as did all of her family.

There have been so many special people that have shared in Mary Ann's journey. We would like to express our deepest gratitude, love and appreciation to each and everyone of you. You made our sister's life complete. You will always have a special place in our hearts.

Mary Ann's pure heart, spunky spirit and love of laughter were contagious. When she smiled her whole face smiled. Especially her eyes. We were blessed with an angel. Rest in peace precious angel.

She is survived by her brother, Terry J Swensen, Lake Havasu City AZ; sisters-Carol K Bak, Irene SD; Connie R Carsrud,  Grand Rapids MN; DeAnna L Swensen, Coos Bay OR; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parrents-Willard M and Anna H Swensen; sister, Barbara J Buckstead; grandparents-Oswald and Marie Swensen; Hans P and Mathilde Hansen; brother-in-laws --Darrell Carsrud and Larry Bak.
