Nancy Almond

April 8, 1932 — October 31, 2020

Nancy Almond, 88 of Parker died Saturday, October 31, 2020 at the Tieszen Memorial Home, Marion.  Funeral mass will be at 10:30am Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at St. Christina Catholic Church, Parker with burial at the church cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5-7pm Tuesday evening at the Hofmeister Jones Funeral Home, Parker. Due to Covid 19, please observe mask and social distancing at both events to celebrate Nancy's life.

Nancy Patricia Almond was born on April 8, 1932 at Providence, RI to William and Dorothy (Goddard) Gill.  She grew up in Rhode Island before being united in marriage to Alvin L. Almond on November 9, 1951 at New Port, RI.  They lived in several places in the United States as her husband served in the US Navy before moving to Parker in 1968.  While they lived in California she was employed at Costco and in Parker with the City of Parker and the Parkerhouse Steakhouse.  She was a member of the Parker City Council, Library Board, attended Grace Lutheran Church and St. Christina Catholic Church where she was active in the Ladies Guild and Altar Society.

Nancy enjoyed and was very good at sewing and made many of the kids and grandkids’ holiday outfits, quilts, and stuffed animals, as well as other sewing projects that she shared with friends and family.  She was also very good at painting and regularly painted landscapes stills and has a collection painted over decades.  Her trips to the gym, working out and staying fit were also important to her throughout the years to stay healthy for her family.  She enjoyed traveling and surprising family with her visits.

Grateful for having shared her life are 3 children, Michael (Joanne) Almond, Parker, Robin (Allan) Berthelsen, Parker, and Michelle (Scott) Hollaender, San Diego, CA; 8 grandchildren, Stephen Almond, Josh Berthelsen, Jamie Bartell, Jenny Andersen, Samantha Theisen, Krysta Theisen, Callen Hollaender, and Christopher (deceased) and 7 great grandchildren, Conner, Rebecca, and Paige Berthelsen, Victoria and Alex Bartell, and Hunter and Miah Andersen; 2 brothers, William “Butch” (Lois) Gill, KY and Robert Powell, MA; and 2 sisters Dorothy Purdy, RI and Donna Myers, OH.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Alvin, a grandson Christopher, and 2 sisters, Audrey and Shirley.
