Ruth Davey, 90 of Hurley, passed away on November 20, 2018 at Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, November 26, 2018 at the United Methodist Church in Hurley. Visitation will be held from 6:00-7:00 PM Sunday, November 25, 2018 at the church with a Prayer Service starting at 7:00 PM. Ruth Mary (Curtis) Davey was born June 21, 1928 to Clarence and Mary (Lee) Curtis. She attended school in Hurley and graduated in 1946. On December 1, 1946 she was united in marriage to Donald G. Davey at Sioux Falls. They farmed their entire life in the Hurley area and moved into Hurley in 1977. Ruth also worked at Spomer’s Market, Vera’s Greenhouse, and at the Hurley School. Ruth was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hurley. She was active in UMW and many church activities. Ruth was an accomplished quilter and spent many hours piecing, sewing and quilting beautiful quilts for family and donated many to fundraisers. One of Ruth’s quilts was named Best of Show at the Turner County Fair and the South Dakota State Fair. She also sewed hundreds of table runners and did a variety of other handiwork. Grateful for sharing her life are her 3 children, Wayne (Ginny) of Hurley, Curt (Debra) of Renner, and Jean (Doug) Skonhovd of Hurley; 7 grandchildren, Jason, Stacey, Wayne E., Jesse, Marcy, A.J., and Derek; 13 great-grandchildren, Morgan, McKenzie, Alexander, Anthony, Abigail, Gage, Journey, Izzy, Cadence, Asher, Brantley, Tyler, and Nora. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Don, and sisters Lucille and Lois.
