Sheila Westphal

Sheila Westphal, 69 of Sioux Falls, formally of Davis, passed away on July 20, 2022. Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, July 28, 2022 at Heritage Funeral Home, Sioux Falls. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at Heritage Funeral Home. Arrangements provided by Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Home.

Sheila Westphal, 69 of Sioux Falls, formally of Davis, passed away on July 20, 2022.  Sheila was born on September 1, 1952 at Cheyenne Agency, SD to Clarence Richard (Dick) And Alva (Simon) Thompson. She was the oldest of five children. Sheila grew up in Ridgeview, SD and graduated from Cheyenne-Eagle Butte High School in 1970.  Sheila was united in marriage with Tim Westphal on August 28, 1972 in Pierre, SD.  To this union two children were born.  A son Richard on December 17, 1973, and a daughter Timberly on February 17, 1976.  They raised their family in Valley Springs, SD, and later Hills, MN.  After their youngest graduated from high school in 1994, they relocated to Davis, SD where they lived until Tim’s death on December 23, 2019.  Sheila relocated to Sioux Falls where she resided at the time of her death.

Sheila started her career at Morrell’s Packing Plant in Sioux Falls, SD.  She suffered a back injury and had to reevaluate her career goals.  She returned to college and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and spent the remaining years of her career in various roles at call centers.  The camaraderie and friendship she made with her co-workers throughout the years were very precious to her.  She retired on April 1, 2020, and had to find a new normal navigating life without her beloved husband Tim and her work family.  She joined Fit Body Bootcamp and began working out multiple  times per week and gained a new sense of self and great new friendships.  She was very proud of her accomplishments in improving her physical and mental health through exercise.

Sheila and Tim enjoyed spending time outdoors fishing, and going for motorcycle rides.  They also enjoyed going to auctions, and rummage sales to find hidden treasures and great deals.  Sheila enjoyed spending time with her family, and watching her grandkids participate in their various activities.  She also loved her time with her Quilting Cousins. They got together yearly to share their passion for quilting and spend time together. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Left to cherish her memory are her son Richard (Christi) Westphal of Leola, SD, grandchildren Mikaela (Andrew) Opgenorth, great grandchildren Kippen and Elais Opgenorth, Nikolaus Frank, Katelynn and Lacey Westphal. Her Daughter Timberly (Darrin) Keller of Sioux Falls, SD, and grandchildren Jeffery Randall, Kennedi, Lincoln, Griffin, and Cruz Keller. Her sister Regina (Dean) Hinzman of Wall, SD. Sister-in-law JoEllen Thompson, Step mother Esther Thompson Eagle Butte, SD Brother-in-Laws Tom, Sam and Gary Westphal, and sister-in-law Sally Westphal, as wells as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her husband Tim, her parents Dick Thompson and Alva Schneider, step father Joe Schneider, brothers Billy, Jeffrey, and Jesse.
