Rodney Pearson, 63, passed away on December 19th at his home in Broomfield, CO with his family at his side. Son of Allen and Joyce (Welfl) Pearson, Rodney grew up in Viborg, SD where he later worked at local grain elevators. In 1981, he married Rita Jorgensen, and together they had two children, Jessica and Derek. In 1997, Rodney and Sandy (Venteicher) married, beginning their adventure that eventually led them to call Colorado home. Rod was a skilled handyman, using his talents to work in hospitals and nursing homes, where he became a favorite among residents and staff for his kind demeanor and sense of humor. His life’s passion was connecting with family and friends—both old and new—and spreading laughter wherever he went.
Rodney was diagnosed with cancer in 2019, but his determination to beat it never wavered. He continued to live life his way including buying his Harley Davidson motorcycle to ride the open road with his life-long friends.
Rodney’s humor, big heart and love for storytelling will be deeply missed by many including: the love of his life, his wife Sandy, daughter and son, Jessica (Andy) Schott, Derek (Ashton) Pearson, brother Jeff (special friend Sarah Papke) and sisters Jolyn (Bob) Ryken, and Tammy (Bud) Zimmerman; grandchildren Caleb (special friend, Charlie Lessert), Elijah, and Trevor Schott, and Mathew Pearson. He also made a lasting impression on his many nieces, nephews and their children. Rodney had a natural ability to connect with kids, earning him the honorary title of Uncle and Grandpa to many.
Rodney is preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Joyce Pearson; brother, Rex; wife, Rita; and his in-laws, Dale & Irene Jorgensen.
Rodney’s legendary embellished stories, pranks and infectious personality provided endless entertainment to those lucky enough to cross his path. His legacy of laughter and love will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
