Meet Our Caring Staff
Meet our staff, members of the local community who make everything that happens possible.


Ryan Penning grew up in Harrisburg and graduated Harrisburg High School in 2010. He graduated from South Dakota State University in 2013 and attended Des Moines Area Community College for Mortuary Science, graduating in 2014. He completed his apprenticeship and started working at Mason Funeral Home in Winner, SD. On January 1, 2018, he joined the staff at Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Home and Heritage Funeral Home in Sioux Falls. He has licenses in South Dakota and Iowa.
Ryan and his wife Amy, children Adley, Maryn, Beaudyn, and dog Jack, reside in Parker. He enjoys outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, golfing, and gardening. The family also likes to cheer on the Jackrabbits and other local teams in sporting events.
Ryan and his family are excited to be a part of Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Home and being involved in the community.


James A. Jones grew up in Parker and graduated from Parker High School in 1979. After graduating from South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD Jim received his degree in Mortuary Science from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. He received his some of his training at the Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings. James and Lori Jones purchased the funeral home in 1998 and opened the funeral chapel in Marion in 2001. Lori is a registered nurse. They have two daughters, Lindsey attending Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kansas and Lauren, attending Parker Junior High School. He also works at the Heritage Funeral Home in Sioux Falls when needed. Jim is a member of the Grace Lutheran Church and past council president, Rosehill Cemetery Board, Parker Housing and Redevelopement Board, Tieszen Memorial Home Board, and is the past president of the South Dakota Funeral Directors Association. He also serves as the Turner County Coroner and is a Certified Funeral Service Practicioner.


Kenneth Hofmeister, son of Harold and Florence, attended mortuary school in Chicago, Illinois and received his license in 1960. He married Mary Lou Petrik of Lake Andes, SD and they operated the funeral home from 1973-1998. Also in conjunction with the funeral home Kenneth was the publisher of the Hurley Leader for a number of years. Kenneth was one of the founders of Heritage Funeral Home in Sioux Falls in 1987. Ken enjoys golf, hunting, and fishing. Ken served as the Turner County Coroner for 40 years. Ken helps out at the funeral home as needed and enjoys spending time at their vacation home in the Black Hills.


Mary Lou Petrik graduated from Lake Andes High School and recieved her teaching degree from Southern State Teachers College in Springfield, SD. She married Ken Hofmeister and they operated the funeral home from 1973-1998. Ken and Mary Lou were one of the founders of Heritage Funeral Home in Sioux Falls in 1987. Mary Lou received her funeral directors license in 1962. Mary Lou is an avid golfer. They are members of the First Presbyterian Church and enjoy spending time at their vacation home in the Black Hills.
